PAUL JAMES BRINDEL

A graveside service for Paul James Brindel, a Novato religious writer, will be held at 11:30 p.m. (sic) Thursday at Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno.

Mr. Brindel, 90, died May 12 at Hill Road Convalescent Hospital.

He was born in Topeka, Kan., and moved to California 35 years ago. He lived in Novato for about 30 years.

He attended the University of Kansas from 1914 to 1916 and studied law at Columbia University.

Mr. Brindel was a writer. In 1950, he sold his monthly newspaper, The Novato Truth, and his weekly newspaper, The Wyandott Sentinel. He also wrote for several Catholic magazines, the Lamp and Messenger of Sacred Heart and the Canadian Register.

He covered the Second Vatican Council from 1952 to 1955.

About 10 years ago, he was listed in Who’s Who in American and Who’s Who in the West.

He was one of the founders of St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church in Novato. He also was a member of the Knights of Gallilee.

He is survived by a son, Paul G. Knittle of Santa Monica; and two grandchildren.
