GLADYS SARA REMEN
A service was held Monday in New York for Gladys Sara Remen of Corte Madera, a retired public health nurse.
Mrs. Remen died Friday at Marin General Hospital after a long illness. She was 83.
She was born in Russia and moved to this country with her family as a teen.
She had lived with her daughter, Dr. Naomi Remen, for the past three years.
She was the widow of Isidore Remen.
As one of the original Henry Street nurses in New York, she was a pioneer in the public-health movement with the Henry Street Settlement House. She was a nurse for 50 years.
She graduated from the Lenox Hill School of Nursing in New York City.
All four of her brothers were doctors and her sister was a nurse. They preceded her in death.
She was a member of Congregation Kol Shofar in Tiburon.
Her family refers donating to the Marin Jewish Community Center senior adult program. Burial will be in Beth David Cemetery in Elmont, N.Y.
