KATHERINE F. McGUIRE

A Mass of Christian Burial for Katherine Frances McGuire of San Rafael will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Church in San Rafael.

Mrs. McGuire died Wednesday at the Veterans Hospital in Palo Alto after a lengthy illness. She was 79.

She had served in the Army Nurse Corps in World War II, serving on hospital ships in Pacific Theater, the Philippines, Japan, Korea, China and Okinawa.

Mrs. McGuire later was assigned to transport ships and as a flight nurse.

She was born in Ireland and came to [the] United States as a young woman. She took her nursing training at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. She had been a registered nurse in both Illinois and in California.

Mrs. McGuire had worked as a nurse in dermatology, general nursing and in surgery.

She had also lived in San Francisco and Redwood City before moving to San Rafael 30 years ago.

Mrs. McGuire was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion.

She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Irvin T. McGuire of San Rafael; two sisters, Margaret Lynch and Nora Lynch, both of San Rafael.

Recitation of the rosary will [be] at 3 p.m. Sunday at Keaton’s Mortuary in San Rafael. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in San Rafael.
