Suicide Identified As A. S. Hale
The body found floating in the bay off Point Bonita last Saturday morning has been identified as that of A. S. Hale, of San Francisco, who jumped off a ferry boat at 1:30 o’clock in the morning of July 22d. A futile effort was made at that time to recover the body and to establish the man’s identity.
The body was brought to Sawyer’s undertaking parlors on Saturday, and finding the initials “A. H.” embroidered inside the dead man’s coat, and also the name of the tailor, Dr. Sawyer went with this clue to San Francisco, and through the tailor established the identity of the body.
The suicide had left a note at his boarding place, the Brown Hotel, Larkin street, stating that he would take his life. He was a telegraph operator, and despondent because he was out of a job.
