Controller A. B. Nye died on Tuesday from pneumonia after a series of paralytic strokes.
Nye was born in Stockton on October 25, 1853. He received his education in the East and entered newspaper work there. Later he came to California, and for fourteen years edited the Oakland Enquirer. In January, 1903, he gave up newspaper work to become secretary to Governor Pardee. He was appointed State Controller on November 23, 1906, and was reappointed on January 7, 1907. In 1910 he was nominated and elected by both Democratic and Republican parties for the term ending in 1915. He was regarded as the most able Controller the State had ever had.
