John Sheehy Died Saturday
John Sheehy, an old resident of San Rafael, died at his home in this city Saturday night after an illness of several days, although he had been ailing for several months. Heart trouble seems to have been the immediate cause of the death. After requiem high mass at St. Raphael’s church Tuesday the body was taken to the city by the Eden Undertaking firm and the interment was in Holy Cross cemetery. Mr. Sheehy was 78 years of age, a native of County Cork, Ireland, and had been a resident of San Rafael since 1880. He leaves a widow and five children, Helen G., John J., C. Parnell, Marguerite W. and Leonide C.
Mr. Sheehy was a mining man and after accumulating considerable in the mines invested in San Francisco and made his home in San Rafael. He took an interest in public affairs and about 25 years ago served as a member of our city trustees. He was instrumental in securing the building of the first concrete bridge in this city, personally superintending its construction. He opposed the pumping sewer system and advocated the outfall system which was later installed, and worked successfully.
Mr. Sheehy had his peculiar ideas, but was considered a good, conscientious, honest man who advocated that which he believed to be right.
