Inverness Lady Aged 90 Dies

Longtime West Marin resident Suzannah Stephenson "Mimi" Reid died unexpectedly in her Inverness home Saturday. She was 90 years old.

Born in 1896 in Barnesboro, Pennsylvania, one of 14 children, Mrs. Reid worked as a photographer's assistant before her marriage to the late Irl Reid. The Reid's came to West Marin when Mr. Reid was put in charge of RCA's communications facilities at Marconi.

The Reids later moved to Inverness where Mrs. Reid was an active volunteer during World War II, running a ham radio station and teaching first aid. For over 50 years, Mrs. Reid was an officer in the church guilds and she also served on the Bishop's committee of St. Columba's Church of Inverness.

Friends described Mrs. Reid as a great friend with a character of outspoken honesty and a great sense of fun, and an active member of her community until the day she died.

She is survived by her daughter Betty Duncan of Two Rock, grandchildren Irlene J. Duncan and Norman Duncan of Sonoma County, a brother William Stephenson of Pennsylvania, and a nephew Melvin Witherson of Costa Mesa.

Funeral services were held Wednesday in Petaluma. A memorial requiem will be held at 11 a.m. Monday April 27 at St. Columba's Church, Inverness. The family requests memorials to be given to St. Columba's Church.
