Fall From Horse Causes Death

An accident which took place on Sunday afternoon resulted in the sudden death of Frank Winchester, one of San Rafael’s well to do citizens. He and his daughter were out horseback riding on Sunday afternoon at about 3 o’clock and when they were coming down Grand avenue at a rapid rate the horse ridden by the young lady started to turn in to the residence of Mr. Martin and as Mr. Winchester’s horse started to turn he was thrown to the ground striking his head. He soon recovered and seemed to be but slightly injured, but later he was taken to the Cottage Hospital where he was operated upon to remove a clot of blood from the brain. He rallied for a while, but took worse at about 11 o’clock Monday evening when he passed away.

Mr. Winchester was 40 years of age, a native of New Hampshire, and had been a resident of San Rafael for four years. The funeral was held on Wednesday at Cypress Lawn cemetery where the body was cremated. He leaves a wife, Elizabeth F., and two daughters, Margaret and Patience.

Mr. Winchester was a highly respected citizen and leaves many warm friends.
