Man Killed at Ross Fire

On Wednesday afternoon the home of Richard O’Connor at Ross took fire in some mysterious manner and was completely destroyed, together with the contents, except the furniture on the first floor.

It seems that no person was at the place when the fire started. Mrs. O’Connor had gone to the home of a neighbor and was there when she saw her home on fire.

It is not known how the fire started. A steam roller was at work on the road in front of the place, and it is thought that the fire might have started from sparks from the roller.

Harry George, who worked for Bert Frohman, who was carrying a box of soap from the house was struck on the back of the head by a falling timber and his neck was broken causing death. Parties who saw the timber falling gave an alarm but George had not time to escape before it struck him.

The body was taken charge of by Coroner Sawyer.

Burial of Ross Fire Victim

Aristid Papadimetrion, the Greek who was killed in the fire which consumed the O’Connor home at Ross Wednesday, April 29th, was buried Friday in the Mt. Tamalpais cemetery. The funeral took place at ten o’clock from the undertaking parlors of F. E. Sawyer and the body was escorted to the grave by Company D of the California National Guard.

Papadimetrion was a native of Greece and on coming to this country several years ago assumed the name of Harry George. He was employed as a chauffeur by F. Frohman, a prominent citizen of Ross, and also as a volunteer fireman by the fire department of that city.

In the discharge of his duty he was attempting to save some furniture on the lower floor of the burning O’Connor home when a heavy cornice piece fell. The warning shout of the excited spectators came too late and the timber struck him at the base of the brain breaking his neck in two places. Death was instantaneous.

The deceased was a member of the California National Guard Company D, 27 years of age and leaves property to the extent of from four to five hundred dollars which will go to his aged father and mother in Greece.
