FORREST K. SHAFFER
A funeral service for Forest K. Shaffer, an artist, designer and sculptor from San Rafael, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Isabella Church in Terra Linda.
He died Thursday, Sept. 29, at his home after a short illness. He was 80.
He was born in Spokane, Wash. He moved with his family to San Francisco and then to Santa Clara, where he graduated from Santa Clara High School.
He attended a fine arts college in San Francisco.
He entered the Air Force during World War II, serving on the staff of the Air Force newspaper, The Clipper.
Mr. Shaffer did packaging design for International Paper Co. and Safeway, designing Lucerne yogurt and cottage cheese cartons. In all, he created 48 designs for Lucerne. He retired four years ago.
He also was the art director for Shell Oil Co. in San Francisco for many years.
Later, he became a partner in Allied Artists in San Francisco, a company that did commercial art work.
“He had a very calm disposition, and he was very trustful,” said his wife, Antoinette Shaffer. “He never took the negative side. He was always easygoing to a fault.”
He lived in San Rafael for 22 years.
His wife is his only survivor.
Rosary will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Keaton’s Chapel in San Rafael.
Entombment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, San Rafael.
