Death of Jack Riede
Friday morning John Riede, the former proprietor of the Riede Bakery on Fourth street, died at his home in this city after a sickness of brief duration. At the beginning of his illness a few months ago he found it necessary to waive business matters and consequently turned the bakery over to his brother Jacob.
He was a man of good standing in the community and was surrounded by a great number of friends.
He is survived by a wife, Amanda Geraldine Riede, and leaves three children, Henrietta, John E. and Harvey A. Riede, fatherless. Besides Jacob Riede, who is the present proprietor of the business, the deceased has a brother Frank, who retired from the business a little over a year ago, surrend[er]ing his bakery to John.
The funeral was held Monday morning at 9:30 from the St. Raphael’s church, where a requiem mass was celebrated for the peace of his soul and Mt. Olivet was his place of interment.
The several lodges of which he was a member was Tamalpapis Stamm 287 U. O. R. M. and the San Francisco North Beach Lodge O. D. H. S. No. 9.
Born in Germany, the deceased spent much of the 37 years of his life in California.
