FRANK PERNA

A funeral for Frank Perna of Novato was held Tuesday in San Francisco. Mr. Perna, 72, died Saturday at Kaiser Hospital in San Rafael.

A native of Italy, Mr. Perna was in the Italian merchant marine at the outbreak of World War II. He became a prisoner of war in the United States and was held in several camps before he joined the U. S. Army. He fought in the Philippines during the war.

After the war, he became a United States citizen and brought his wife and son to American from Italy.

He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad in Montana. He moved to California in 1948 and worked for Pacific Gas & Electric Co. and Italian-French Baking Co.

In 1955, he opened his own restaurant in San Francisco called Villa Romana.

He lived in San Francisco, Watsonville and Monterey before moving to Marin County eight years ago.

He enjoyed fishing and hunting. Recently he had spent much of his time gardening.

Mr. Perna is survived by a son, Albert Perna of Novato; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma.
