JOHN H. CAVER

A memorial service for John H. Caver of Meridian, Miss., a former resident of Terra Linda and longtime Marin artist, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Colma.

Mr. Caver died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 1987, at a Meridian convalescent home after a long illness. He was 68.

Mr. Caver was a native of Meridian. He lived in Terra Linda for 28 years before returning home to Mississippi in September.

Mr. Caver was a well-known Marin artist who belonged to the Terra Linda Art Association and the Marin Society of Artists. He won many awards for his art work, which included rock sculpture, abstract paintings and multi-media creations.

“He was a very clever artist who had ideas no one else had,” said his friend and longtime neighbor, Eleanor West of San Francisco.

After serving in the Navy during World War II, Mr. Caver studied art in Paris. He later worked as an X-ray technician to support his art career.

Mr. Caver is survived by his sister, Phyllis Caver of Meridian, Miss., and a brother, Ben Caver of Mississippi.

The family prefers that memorial donations be sent to Hospice of Marin.
