ROLAND S. BURLINGAME
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Community Congregational Church in Tiburon for Roland S. Burlingame of Tiburon.
Mr. Burlingame, an expert in wastewater treatment and water pollution control, died Saturday at Marin General Hospital.
He was a native of Rhode Island.
Mr. Burlingame received a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of New Hampshire and recently received the outstanding achievement award from the institution’s College of Technology.
He was a founding partner in Camp, Dresser and McKee Inc., an environmental engineering and consulting firm based in Boston.
Mr. Burlingame was a specialist in hydraulics and pump station design.
He participated in most of the firm’s major projects between 1947 and 1971, when he retired as a senior vice president.
After his retirement, he became an in-house consultant to Camp, Dresser and McKee Inc. and served on the firm’s technical review committee.
Mr. Burlingame was a licensed engineer in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and New York.
He was active in numerous engineering societies.
Mr. Burlingame was a life member and diplomat of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers, a life member and fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers, a life member of the New England Water Pollution Control Association and a diplomat of the American Society of Sanitary Engineers.
He also belonged to the New England Society of Civil Engineers, the American Waterworks Association, the Water Pollution Control Federation, the California Water Pollution Control Association, the Inter-American Association of Sanitary Engineering and the New England Waterworks Association.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth H. Burlingame of Tiburon; and a sister, Harriet Bundy of Manchester, H.H.
Burial will be private at Fernwood Cemetery in Mill Valley.
The family prefers memorial gifts to Hospice of Marin or the American Heart Association.
