MARY McNEAR McNAB

A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Monday at the Katharine Branson School in Ross for Mary McNear McNab, former longtime Ross resident and member of a pioneer Sonoma and Marin family.

Mrs. McNab died Wednesday in San Francisco at the age of 62.

She was born and raised in Petaluma, the granddaughter of George P. McNear, founder of the McNear Feed Mill. Her father, E. Denman McNear, also operated the family business, which subsequently was developed as the Great Petaluma Mill, a complex of shops and restaurants.

Mrs. McNab and her family had lived in Ross since 1949. Her husband, James McNab, an investment counselor and onetime Ross town councilman, died in 1980.

Mrs. McNab is survived by three sons James McNab III of San Francisco, Alexander McNab of East Norwalk, Conn., and Stewart McNab of Denver, Colo.; and a brother, Denman K. McNear of Kentfield, former president of Southern Pacific Railroad Co.

The family prefers memorial contributions to the Dr. Victor Richards Endowed Chair of Surgical Education and Research, in care of Victor Richards, M.D., 3838 California St., Suite 612, San Francisco, 94118.
