EUGENE L. MEYER
Eugene L. Meyer, a retired Marin undersheriff, died Wednesday at his home in Rohnert Park after a lengthy illness. He was 70.
Mr. Meyer retired in 1967 after a long law enforcement career.
He first worked five years as a Marin deputy sheriff and then served eight years as police chief in Belvedere.
Mr. Meyer became Marin’s undersheriff in January of 1959 and served until 1966 when he developed a heart condition. He continued work for another year as a deputy sheriff.
He was born in San Francisco and was reared there and in Mill Valley. He lived many years in Corte Madera.
After his retirement, Mr. Meyer lived in Lake County and moved to Sonoma County six years ago.
His wife, Harriett Meyer, died previously.
He is survived by two daughters, Marilynn Williams of Rohnert Park and Sandra Carroll of Petaluma; his mother, Louise Meyer Britton of Glen Ellen; a brother, George Meyer of Glen Ellen; four grandchildren and a great-grandson.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Neptune Society, 2607 Santa Rosa Ave., Santa Rosa. Inurnment will be private.
The family prefers that contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
