Mr. Cummings, 81, was a native of Guadalajara, Mexico.

He came to this country as a child and lived in Oakland after his marriage in 1934.

Mr. Cummings lived in Greenbrae for about 20 years before moving to Santa Rosa in 1974.

He was a graduate of the University of California in Berkeley.

Mr. Cummings worked in advertising in San Francisco. When he retired, he was serving as co-director of production for the Honig-Cooper & Harrington agency.

He was active in the Santa Rosa chapters of Sons in Retirement and Sons of the American Revolution.

Mr. Cummings also served for several years on the Board of Directors of the Marin Symphony.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Cummings of Santa Rosa; two daughters, Nancy Lawrence of Sioux City, Iowa, and Mary Thompson of Pittsburgh, Penn.; a sister, Julia Williams of Seal Beach, Orange County; and four grandchildren.

At his request, a private family service was conducted by the Neptune Society.

The family prefers memorial gifts to a favorite charity.
