Youth of Promise Dies Suddenly
A severe shock to his family and scores of friends was the sudden death early Friday morning of Richard E. Murray, son of a pioneer Marin county family and a young man of exceptional attainment for one of his years. He was 20 years and four months of age, and had completed his studies preparatory to taking the bar examination. For some time he had been studying law with the firm of Lilienthal, McKinstry & Raymond in San Francisco, and the members of this concern predicted a bright future for the young man. He was born and had lived all his short life in San Rafael.
Attesting the universal sorrow felt at the untimely taking off of the deceased, one of the largest crowds that for some time has gathered in St. Raphael’s church attended the funeral services held there Monday morning under the supervision of Dr. F. E. Sawyer. Following the celebration of the a requiem mass, participated in by ten priests, a long cortege accompanied the remains to Mt. Olivet cemetery for interment.
The deceased was the son of the late Michael Murray and Mrs. Anna Murray, and the brother of Michael J., Margaret T., Kathryn A., Elizabeth F. and Timothy E. Murray, Sister Aloysius, Mrs. W. J. Eden and the late Joseph J. Murray. He was a member of San Rafael Council No. 1292, Knights of Columbus, under whose auspices the funeral was held.
The honorary pall bearers were Thos. P. Boyd, Charles A. Redding, Frank Sirard, P. H. Cochrane, Frank Murray and Franz Frey, and the active pall bearers were Thos. Daly, Samuel Worth, Benjamin Pacheco, Jr., Adolph Koenig, Milton Duffy and Richard Kinsella, Jr.
