SALLY JANE SHAFER
Sally Jane Shafer of San Francisco, wife of former Marin County Assessor-Recorder W. Bruce Shafer, died Tuesday at home after a lengthy illness. She was 48.
Mrs. Shafer was a fourth generation San Franciscan. She lived in Marin for 23 years before moving back to San Francisco two months ago. Her husband resigned his Marin post earlier this year to accept an appointment as San Francisco’s chief assistant assessor.
Mrs. Shafer graduated from Sarah Dix Hamlin School in San Francisco and from San Francisco College for Women.
She was a member of the Marin Charitable Foundation, Sausalito Women’s Club and Little Jim Club of Children’s Hospital in San Francisco.
In addition to her husband, she also is survived by a daughter, Claire Shafer-Jones of San Francisco; her mother, Claire A. Engman of San Francisco; and her father, Dr. Charles A. Daley of Hillsborough.
A private service has been held.
Her family asked that memorial gifts go to the Guide Dogs for the Blind in San Rafael.
