Convict Ends Life And Sentence In Suicide
James Hayes, a convict serving four years for burglary in Los Angeles, committed suicide Tuesday morning by jumping through a window in the tubercular ward to the ground fifty feet below. He succumbed to his injuries in about two hours.
In the testimony at the inquest held by Coroner Sawyer it developed that Hayes’ action was prompted through his disappointment over the failure of a relative to visit him last Sunday. He brooded over this until his mind became affected. He was to have appeared before the Board of Prison Directors Saturday as an applicant for parole. He was 45 years of age.
