ANNA W. SMITH
The funeral for Anna W. “Red” Smith of San Francisco, a former Marin resident, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ascension Baptist Church in San Francisco.
She died Saturday at her home after a lengthy illness. She was 72.
Mrs. Smith, a native of Delhi, La., had lived in Marin City from 1944 to 1958 before moving to San Francisco.
She was a member of the Laundry, Dry Cleaners and Dye Workers union in San Francisco for 27 years. She worked as a supervisor at the Fairmont Hotel, overseeing the laundry room until her retirement in 1972.
Mrs. Smith was a member of the First Missionary Baptist church in Marin City until she moved to San Francisco. She later became a member of El Bethel Baptist Church in San Francisco.
Survivors are her husband, Ben Smith, of San Francisco; a daughter, Barbara Douglas of Marin City; three sisters, Tennessee Simpson of Bakersfield, Fleeta Oats of Monroe, La., and Velma “Kitty” Harris of Marin City; and three brothers, George White of Novato, Josea White of Oakland and Ernest White of Arcadia.
There will be a quiet hour from 8 to 9 tonight at Bayview Mortuary in San Francisco. Burial will be at Mount Tamalpais Cemetery in San Rafael.
The family prefers contributions to the American Cancer Society.
