LUCILLE K. CZARNOWSKI
A graveside service for Lucille Czarnowski, a noted dance expert and retired professor, will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland.
Miss Czarnowski had lived in Marin for 12 years. Earlier, she had taught dance and dance education at the University of California at Berkeley for 50 years.
She also had written several books on dance, including “Dances of Early California,”
and had received the National Dance Association’s Heritage Award.
Her research into Scandinavian folk dancing and education earned her the Lingiad Gold Medal, presented by the King of Sweden.
In addition to earning a bachelor’s degree at the University of California, she had earned master’s degree at the University of Wisconsin and done postgraduate studies in Dresden, Germany, and Bennington, Vt.
She also had served as president of the California Folkdance Federation and chairman of the American Association for Health, Physical Education and Recreation.
In 1973, she retired from the university and moved to The Tamalpais.
She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Barton E. Bacon of Lafayette.
