Brother of Former Local Man Dies
The Martinez daily papers of last week carried lengthy accounts of the illness and death of George E. Netherton of that place from Bright’s disease. He passed away in Santa Cruz, where he had gone for his health.
Deceased was a brother of Edward W. Netherton, formerly editor and manager of the Tocsin, who is well known here.
The funeral was one of the largest every held in Martinez, being attended by members of the Woodmen, Knights of Pythias and Maccabees in a body, as well as a large number of other citizens. Mr. Netherton came from a prominent and wealthy pioneer family of the county and leaves a considerable fortune.
[He] is survived by a widow and two children besides four brothers and a father.
