Noted Musician, Known Here, Dead
Herman Perlet, noted musician, known here through his connection with musical circles, died last Friday night at his home in Oakland of heart trouble.
Prof. Perlet was a musician of rare ability, being a master of the piano and all other string instruments, as well as horns. He had gained a wide distinction as a composer of operatics.
He was known here intimately by scores of persons who have received instrumental and vocal instructions from him. For several years he directed the Marin County Choral Society. He was the director of the San Francisco Philharmonic Orchestra last season and had been for some time the director of the Columbia Park Boys’ Band.
Perlet’s death came as a shock to his family, a wife and a daughter. He appeared in perfect health when he returned home for dinner and spent the evening reading aloud to his family. He was still reading when stricken.
Funeral services were held at his late residence Monday under the auspices of the Masonic Lodge, of which he was a member.
Rev. Lynn T. White of San Rafael officiated at the funeral service.
