Body Of Man Found In Water Of Bay

The body of a man believed to be that of John Masterson, a former soldier, was found in the bay yesterday by Harry Coughlin, engineer of the ferryboat J. C. Donohue. It is thought by Deputy Coroner Keaton that the body has been in the water about six weeks.

Investigation following the finding of a letter on the remains addressed to “Dear Dad,” and mentioning a hotel at 143 Third street, San Francisco, disclosed that the remains are probably those of Masterson. The man was well dressed, and in the pockets was a little money, proving that it was without doubt a case of suicide and not murder following robbery.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Presidio in San Francisco over the remains of John Masterson, a civil war veteran, whose body was found last Thursday floating in the bay off Sausalito. Masterson was on his way to the home at Yountville when he is believed to have fallen from a boat.
