CHARLES G. PUTNAM Dies At 80
Charles G. Putnam, 80, of 645 Northern Avenue, Tamalpais Valley, prominent San Francisco businessman in hardware and housewares, died yesterday in San Francisco after a long illness.
A native of Santa Barbara, he began his business career in 1901 in San Francisco. He started his own firm, Charles G. Putnam Co., in 1931. The company now operates offices in Los Angeles and Portland, Ore., as well as its headquarters in San Francisco.
In 1946 he was elected president of the San Francisco Pot and Kettle Club and the Associated Pot and Kettle Club of America. Last year, the San Francisco Pot and Kettle Housewares Club awarded Putnam its Good Fellowship Award. He was given membership in the Hardware Age 50 Year Club in 1964.
He had been ill for the past two years, but did not leave active business until this month. He lived in Mill Valley for four years.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Putnam, and his sister, Margaret Putnam of Auburn, Placer County.
Funeral will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Grace Cathedral, San Francisco.
