Mrs. Saunders Dies from Injuries
Struck by an automobile driven by Nathaniel Williams last Friday night, as she was leaving the mass meeting in the Armory, Mrs. Helena Saunders, whose husband was a former superintendent of schools in this county, was taken to the Cottage Hospital, where she died a few hours later from her injuries.
Unconscious from the time she was struck, Mrs. Saunders was suffering from a fracture of the skull and internal injuries.
The accident occurred near the Armory entrance on Fourth street, which was crowded with automobiles at the time. Spectators declare that the woman attempted to cross the street in a maze of machines. Williams, in a Ford containing his mother, sister and Mr. Lethbridge, edged his way between two large machines and struck the woman before he saw her. He was able to stop his car before it passed over her body. She was removed immediately to the hospital for attention, but every effort to save her was futile.
Mrs. Saunders was 60 years of age and was well known here where she had lived for many years. She is survived by one daughter, Miss Georgia Saunders.
The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon in Sawyer’s Parlors and burial was made in Mount Tamalpais cemetery.
