RICHARD W. TIDWELL
Richard Tidwell of Novato, a Bay Area television director and lighting designer, died Friday, Jan. 19, 1990, at Marin General Hospital following an illness. He was 48.
Mr. Tidwell was a native of South San Francisco. He had lived in Novato for the past 15 years.
He worked as the stage manager and lighting director for the San Francisco Ballet from 1963 to 1966.
Mr. Tidwell then took a job at KGO television in San Francisco and had worked since then s a director of locally produced programs, including “Good Morning Bay Area.”
Mr. Tidwell also worked as a free-lance director for KQED and KPIX television stations in San Francisco, and KTVU television in Oakland.
He previously directed the “Express” news program, an award winning s how that formerly aired on KQED.
Mr. Tidwell also worked as a free-lance lighting designer for television commercials.
Mr. Tidwell moved to Minnesota with his family to work as a technical director for the Guthrie Theater from 1973 to 1974.
Mr. Tidwell was a member of the Directors Guild of America and the National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians. He was once nominated for an Emmy award for his direction of a video production covering the Monterey Jazz Festival.
Mr. Tidwell is survived by his wife, Joan Tidwell of Novato; three daughters, Joelle Tidwell of Oceanside, Judith Tidwell of Novato and Jaclynn Tidwell of Novato; a son, Russell Tidwell of Novato; his parents, William and Edna Tidwell of Sonora, and a sister, Diantha Potter of Alameda.
A private service was held last week.
His family prefers memorial donations to the Hospice of Marin.
