JULIA T. DIBRELL

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Mill Valley for Julia T. Dibrell, a longtime Southern Marin resident.

Mrs. Dibrell died Tuesday at the Hillhaven Convalescent Hospital in Mill Valley at the age of 81.

For many years, she was restaurant manager for the San Francisco Women’s City Club and food service director for the Residence Club of the Y.W.C.A. in San Francisco. She retired in 1971.

Mrs. Dibrell was born in New York and came to Sausalito in 1958. Twenty years later she moved to Tiburon.

She attended Fordham University and graduated from the Iridor School of Restaurant Management.

In New York she coordinated food service efforts for a number of organizations, including the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Rockefeller Institute of Medical Research.

During World War II, she worked for the Navy and Pennsylvania Railroad where she was one of the first female dining car attendants in the country.

She was active in the Star of the Sea Church in Sausalito, Marin County Humane Society and the Hospitality Committee of the Emeritus College of the Marin Community College.

Surviving are her son, James J. Hannon, and three grandchildren.

The family prefers memorial contributions to the League of Concern, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 3 Oakdale Ave., Mill Valley.
