INDIA EDWARDS
A memorial service for former Marin resident Indian Edwards, know as the grande dame of t he Democratic Party, will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Livermore Room at the Marin Art and Garden Center in Ross.
Mrs. Edwards died Sunday, Jan. 14, 1990, at the Fircrest Convalescent Hospital in Sebastopol. She was 94.
She was a well known figure in Democratic politics and a pioneer in the women’s rights movement. Mrs. Edwards served as vice chairman of the Democratic Party in the 1950s, a position she used to press for appointment of women to government positions.
She was a native of Chicago. Mrs. Edwards lived in Greenbrae from 1975 to 1987 before moving to Sonoma County.
Mrs. Edwards is survived by five granddaughters, Challen von Junsch and India Clarke, both of Sebastopol, Pamela Mazzola and Andrea Ham, both of Santa Rosa, and Eugenie Delles of Petaluma; and eight great-grandchildren.
Her family prefers memorial gifts to a favorite charity.
