Col. CECIL H. HAYES
A private memorial service for retired Army Col. Cecil H. Hayes of San Rafael has been held at the post chapel of the Presidio of San Francisco.
Col. Hayes died Oct. 25 of heart failure following surgery at Kaiser Hospital in San Francisco. He was 65.
He was a native of Tennessee.
Col. Hayes earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland in 1956 and master’s degree in business administration from the University of North Carolina in 1960.
Col. Hayes retired in 1969 after 31 years of active duty. Before his retirement, he was comptroller of Letterman General Hospital at the Presidio. His awards included the Army Commendation Medal.
He was a health facilities representative with the Licensing and Certification Division of the state Health Department from 1970 to 1980.
Col. Hayes is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Hayes of San Rafael; two sons, Kenneth H. Hayes and Stephen R. Hayes, both of San Jose; a daughter, Donna E. Hayes-Logsdon of San Francisco; three grandchildren; three brothers, retired Army Col. William H. Hayes of San Antonio, Texas; C. Edward Hayes of Salisbury, Md., and retired Air Force Col. R. Kenneth Hayes of Montgomery, Ala.; and two sisters, Ruby Wenderott of Aurora, Colo., and Opal Daugherty of North Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Burial was in the San Francisco National Cemetery at the Presidio.
His family asked that memorial contributions go to the American Heart Association.
