Casper J. Gardner
One of Marin county’s oldest native sons, for 20 years a member of the Board of Supervisors, breathed his last last night in Mill Valley. He was Casper J. Gardner, born in Corte Madera in 1862 and a resident of Mill Valley since 1906, who died at his home, 239 Miller avenue where he had been invalided for nearly five years.
Owner of extensive properties in the Locust district where his building operations pioneered the development of that district as a retail trading center, Gardner was elected supervisor from District 3 in 1912. Taking office on January 6 of the following year he served continuously for two decades, when he retired at the end of 1932 to be succeeded by Frederick Thompson and for a number of years, until his health began to fail, he devoted himself to looking after property interests and extensive travel up and down the west coast.
Gardner’s wife Louise died in 1933 and he is survived by an only nephew, William G. Wilson of Oakland. The body is at the Robert F. Russell Co. chapel with funeral services under the auspices of the Mill Valley Masons, arranged for 1 o’clock Wednesday afternoon in the Masonic Temple. Inurnment will be at Olivet Memorial Park.
Deceased was a member of the Mill Valley Lodge of Masons, Mill Valley Eastern Star, Mt. Tamalpais Lodge of Odd Fellows and Blythedale Rebekah Lodge.
