LEDO SAMPIETRO

Ledo Sampietro, 37, San Rafael native and onetime tumbling star at San Rafael High School, was killed in a construction accident a week ago today between Calexico and San Diego.

Sampietro was a foreman for Isbell Construction Co. of Arizona. He was standing on a girder of a bridge under construction, supervising a crane when he fell backward. He fell about 50 feet to the ground, reported his father, Frank Sampietro of San Rafael. He died about an hour later in an El Centro hospital.

Funeral was in El Centro, with burial in Greenwood Memorial Park, San Diego.

Sampietro attended St. Raphael’s School and San Rafael High School. He set many records tumbling while in high school. He resided in San Rafael until about 15 years ago, and since had lived in Flagstaff, Williams, and Tucson, Ariz. He was residing in Calexico at the time of the accident.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia, and daughters, Barbara, 14, and Janie, 12, in Calexico, and by his father and a sister, Madeline Sampietro, in San Rafael.
