GRACE BOYD
A service will be held in Cleveland, Ohio, for Grace Legge Boyd, a resident of Sausalito for six years.
Mrs. Boyd, who was 89, died Wednesday at her home after a lengthy illness.
She was born in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada, and lived for a time in Toronto, Canada. She immigrated to Cleveland in 1919.
In Ohio, she graduated from the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing. For many years she was an operating room assistant nurse to Dr. Claude S. Beck, a pioneer in open heart surgery.
After a long career in nursing, she retired at the age of 65. She then became active in volunteer work through the Church of the Covenant and was awarded a special citation for her work in the gardening beautification of University Circle Place in Cleveland.
In 1979, she moved to Sausalito to be near her daughter.
Her husband, Joseph Hammell Boyd, died earlier.
Mrs. Boyd is survived by her daughter, Joanne Boyd Ganger of Sausalito; a sister, Eve Legge Miller of Canada; a brother, William Fredrick Legge of Canada; and two grandchildren.
