Jones Last Rites Held
Requiem High Mass for the late county clerk George Sherman Jones, filled St. Raphael’s in San Rafael this morning as the county’s five supervisors and other Marin dignitaries paid a final tribute to the veteran county official.
Jones, 75, native of Sausalito and Marin County Clerk for 36 years, collapsed and died on a B Street sidewalk near Julia Street in San Rafael Wednesday afternoon.
The Mass was celebrated by Rev. John Petroni.
Jones is survived by his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Low Jones of 51 Valencia Street, San Rafael. His daughter and one son also are well known county officials. Mrs. Agnes Nathanson is chief deputy county clerk. George Paul Jones is manager of the Marin County Mosquito Abatement District. He leaves another son, a brother, five grandchildren and three great grandsons.
Keaton’s Mortuary was in charge of funeral arrangements.
