Miss Belle Brown Passes Away Today At Ross Hospital
Belle C. Brown, City Treasurer of Larkspur, and former Clerk of the city, passed away this (Thursday) morning in a hospital in Ross.
The funeral service will be held Saturday forenoon from the Brown home in Larkspur, thence to St. Patrick’s Church, where a requiem mass will be said. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet, under the direction of Keaton’s Mortuary.
Miss Brown was a former teacher in the schools of San Rafael, and when the Marin County Historical Society was formed in 1935, she became its first president.
She was active in Larkspur civic and city affairs, and organized the Larkspur Women’s Club.
Miss Brown was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Brown who came to this county in the year 1850. Her father started lumbering operation in the Baltimore Canyon, Larkspur, where he held over 200 acres of timber land.
Miss Brown’s passing will recall to many of her former pupils in the San Rafael schools, the qualities of leadership possessed by t his natural-born teacher. She was well educated and knew how to impart her knowledge to the students under her. Miss Brown knew the history of Marin County perhaps better than many other pioneers of this region, and her discourses and conversations on this subject was always interesting and instructive.
