Pioneer 76 Years, Dies at Bolinas
Born in California in 1841, before the state was admitted to the union, Mrs. Rafaelo Briones of Bolinas passed away at her home last Friday at the age of 76 years.
She was the widow of the late Pavlo Briones, whose father at one time owned the Rancho Los Baulinas, comprising 25,000 acres of land on the peninsula.
Mrs. Briones is survived by nine children, Paul, John, Frank, Albert and Rosie Briones, Mrs. Belle Latter, Mrs. Lottie Fowler, Mrs. Katie Lopes and Mrs. Inez Walsh. One daughter, Mrs. Mary Canuff, died a few years ago.
The funeral was held last Monday from the late residence at Bolinas, and a requiem high mass was celebrated at St. Mary’s church preceding the burial in Bolinas cemetery.
Many pioneers and representatives of the old Marin families attended the services.
