Louis A. Chartier Dies Near Olema
Louis A. Chartier, who has lived for several years in Marin county and was known as Bill Carter, died on the Murphy ranch near Olema Thursday and his body was brought to Sawyer’s undertaking parlors. Little is known of the deceased. Letters found among his effects show that he was a member of a family of fourteen children, ten girls and four boys. In 1910 his wife left him and he has since been working on different farms in the county, a somewhat broken wreck owing mostly to his unfortunate drinking habits.
At the time of his death he was employed by Fire Chief Murphy of San Francisco who took charge of the funeral arrangements and in order to save him from the potter’s field bought a burial place for him in Mt. Tamalpais cemetery. Funeral services will be held this afternoon.
