Prominent Pioneer Woman Is Dead
In the death last week Wednesday in Oakland of Mrs. Lucinda Almy another link in the historical chain which holds together Marin’s past and present was severed.
Wife and widow of Judge Joseph Almy, one of the history makers of this county, she had lived here in –[line illegible] – toms. Eight years after her marriage to Joseph Almy, which was in 1857, her husband was selected by Governor Low to fill the high office of County Judge. Two years later, in 1867, he was elected to that position by the voters, and then re-elected successively until 1880.
Six children were born to the union, of these five are still living.
The funeral was held last Saturday in Oakland and was attended by several San Rafael people, including the relatives. Mrs. Almy was born in Indiana in 1834, and was 82 years and five months of age.
The children surviving her are Thomas B. Almy, Charles A. Almy, Nellie M. Almy, Mrs. H. Gibson and Mrs. B. Hewitt.
