C. GERALD CLEAR

C. Gerald Clear, a longtime Sausalito resident and former oil company researcher, died Friday at Marin General Hospital. He was 72.

Mr. Clear worked for 32 years for the Shell Oil Co. in research and development. He also was a trustee of the Sausalito School District in the early 1970s.

He was born in Seattle, Wash., and had lived in Sausalito for more than 30 years.

He attended Brisbane Boys Grammar School in Australia and Polytechnic High School in San Francisco. He was a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, where he earned bachelor’s and Ph.D. degrees.

His remains were donated to the University of California Medical Center in San Francisco.
