GREGORY DUANE HARRIS
The funeral for Gregory Duane Harris of Marin City will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the First Missionary Baptist Church in Marin City. Mr. Harris, 28, died Friday of a gunshot wound.
He was born in San Rafael and raised in Marin City.
He graduated from Martin Luther King School in Sausalito and from Mewah Mountain High School in Larkspur.
Mr. Harris was known in the community for his compassion for children. He also loved jazz.
He is survived by his mother, Velma “Kitty” Harris of Marin City; a son, Gregory Harris Jr.; three sisters, Barbara Douglas of Marin City, Shirley Townsel of San Rafael and Lawanda Harris of Marin City; and two brothers, Johnny Harris Jr. of San Rafael and Michael Harris of Marin City.
A quiet hour will be held today from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Russell & Gooch Funeral Chapel in Mill Valley. Visitation will be today after 1 p.m. at the mortuary. Burial will be in Mount Tamalpais Cemetery in San Rafael.

A Death Notice in the same paper adds that he was the son of the late Johnny Harris Sr., great-nephew of Annie Fletcher of Sacramento, nephew of Tennessee Simpson of Bakersfield, Fleta Oats of La., Goerge and Hosea White, both of Oakland, and Ernest White of La.
