Prominent Hotel Man Passes Away
Another San Rafael pioneer passed away Saturday when the death occurred of Jacob Schneider who has been prominent in the hotel business of San Rafael for many years. Mr. Schneider conducted the Marin Hotel during the years in which San Rafael was making its rapid growth. He afterwards managed the Union Hotel and at the time of his death and for several years previous had been conducting Schneider’s Gardens, known as a hospitable family resort.
Funeral services were held Monday at St. Raphael’s church under the charge of Dr. Sawyer and were attended by a large gathering of old time residents of the city.
Deceased was a member of several fraternal orders, among them being Hermann’s Sons of Santa Rosa, the Druids, Eagles, Foresters and German Redmen. He leaves a wife, Mrs. Louisa Schneider, a son, Dr. Edward Schneider, and two daughters, Miss Cecilia Schneider and Mrs. Louise Mulcahy.
