Death Follows Auto Accident

David R. Byrnes, Jr., brother of James Byrnes, well known baseball player and former Assemblyman, passed away Sunday afternoon at Ritter’s Sanitarium in Ross from injuries received earlier in the day when he was run over by an automobile driven by P. S. Scott, of San Rafael.

The accident occurred at the foot of Corte Madera hill. Byrnes and two other men were on a truck heading north. He stepped out onto the running board to wipe the moisture from the windshield, and as he did so the Scott machine shot alongside and brushed him off. The wheel of the Scott machine passed over his body. Scott then took the injured man to the hospital. Dr. Harry Hund performed an operation in an endeavor to save the man’s life.

Byrnes had recently purchased a home in Lansdale, and the truck contained a load of material with which he had planned to make repairs. He was 35 years of age and unmarried. Besides his brother, he is survived by an aged father and two married sisters, Mrs. N. House and Mrs. F. J. McLaughlin, both of San Francisco.

An inquest was held last night before Coroner J. Ray Keaton and a jury, the verdict being to the effect that Byrnes came to his death from injuries received when struck by an automobile.
