Mill Valley Boy Killed In Blast

Lieutenant Arnold Marcus, of Mill Valley, and four of his shipmates on the submarine A-7, stationed at Cavite, Philippine Islands, were instantly killed yesterday in an explosion on board the undersea boat.

Marcus was a graduate of Annapolis, and his home was in Mill Valley, where his uncle, Gustav Marcus, of the California Jewelry company, and his widow now reside. He was 26 years of age.

The bereaved widow was Miss Helen Cowles, a niece of Mrs. Denis O’Sullivan and a granddaughter of Mrs. James Marion Curtis.

The dead reported in the official dispatches are: Marcus, Harold Lang, of Massachusetts; O. Hopewell, Missouri; Jesse M. Currie, Virginia; and Joseph A. Kunz, of Texas. Three men were badly burned and bruised.
