ORVILLE E. PETERSON

A memorial service for Orville E. Peterson will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Keaton’s Mortuary in Novato.

Mr. Peterson, a former car mechanic who loved horses, died Thursday, May 5, 1988, at his Novato home. He was 69.

Born in Washington, Mr. Peterson moved to Marin County in 1940. He worked at several automotive shops and eventually owned Evans Automotive Machine Shop in Mill Valley, where he once worked as a mechanic.

Horses were Mr. Peterson’s real love, and he was a past captain of the Marin Mounted Sheriff’s Posse and a member of the Novato Horseman and Tamalpais Trail Riders.

He also worked with the Valley Riders 4-H Club, which, he once told the Marin Independent Journal, gave him the “immense satisfaction of being with the youngsters and the horses.”

Mr. Peterson is survived by his wife, Zola Peterson; a son, Erik J. Peterson of Cloverdale; a daughter, Jill Rowen of Elko, Nev.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Private interment will be at Forest View Cemetery in Forestville.

The family requests memorial contributions to a favorite charity.
