CHARLENE R. ARTHUR

A memorial ser vice for Charlene R. Arthur of Petaluma, a longtime shop owner at Northgate Mall, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Parent-Sorensen Mortuary in Petaluma.

Mrs. Arthur died Wednesday, July 6, 1988, at Petaluma Valley Hospital after a brief illness. She was 59.

She was born in Bayard, Neb., and was reared there and in Superior, Wisc. She attended Superior State College and received a teaching credential in Eau Claire, Wisc. She taught kindergarten in Duluth, Minn., before moving to California in 1950.

Mrs. Arthur earned a bachelor of science degree at San Francisco State University and taught kindergarten in Santa Rosa before moving to Petaluma in 1953. In Petaluma, she taught at McKinley School and the former Philip Sweed School.

She retired from teaching in 1960 to rear her children. In 1970, she opened the Bathique Shop at the Northgate Mall in Terra Linda. She opened another shop at the Santa Rosa Plaza in 1980 and was managing both stores until her recent illness.

Mrs. Arthur was a member of the Order of Eastern Star of Petaluma and the Chicken Little Chapter of the Children’s Home Society.

She is survived by her husband, Douglas C. Arthur of Petaluma, a retired school principal; a son, Craig R. Arthur of Point Reyes Station; a daughter, Julie E. Cioffi of Palmdale; her mother, Julia G. Reece of Santa Rosa; a sister, Jean McGowan of Santa Rosa; and a grandson.

Private inurnment will be in Santa Rosa Memorial Park.

The family prefers that contributions be made to the Children’s Home Society or a favorite charity.
