Well Known Bay Mariner Goes On Last Voyage

Captain John A. Matheson, one of the best known mariners in the bay service, died at his Sausalito home last Saturday after a short illness.

For many years Captain Matheson had been in command of one of the Northwestern Pacific ferry boats, his last command being the Cazadero. He was known to many Marin county commuters.

The funeral was held Tuesday in San Francisco under the auspices of King Solomon Lodge No. 260, F. & A. M., and the interment was private.

Capt. Matheson was a native of Sweden, 65 years of age, and is survived by a widow, Mrs. Ella Matheson, and a daughter, Miss May Matheson.

Note: an obituary in the Sausalito News, 25 August 1917, adds that he was the brother-in-law of Geo. Wittman, ex-chief of police of San Francisco.
