JOE R. WILSON

Joe R. Wilson of Mill Valley, longtime journalist with United Press International in San Francisco, died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1987, at his home following a long illness. He was 78.

Mr. Wilson was born and reared in Idaho. After graduating from the College of Idaho in 1929, he went to work as a reporter for the Idaho Statesman in Boise.

He was the newspaper’s managing editor when he left in 1941 to service in World War II as a member of the U. S. Army Air Corps.

After the war, Mr. Wilson came to the Bay Area to work for the San Francisco bureau of United Press International. He worked both as a reporter and editor during his 30 years with UPI. He retired in 1975.

He and his wife, Ruth, moved to Mill Valley in 1955.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Wilson is survived by his mother, Lila Wilson Hoover of Parma, Idaho; two daughters, Joan Wilson Bush of Lake Oswego, Ore., and Roberta Wilson McFadden of Pullman, Wash.; and four grandsons.

At his request, no services will be conducted.
