STEPHANIE VANING
A private funeral for Stephanie A. Vaning, lifelong San Rafael resident, was held Thursday at Keaton’s Mortuary in San Rafael.
Mrs. Vaning died unexpectedly Tuesday, Aug. 25, 1987, at Marin General Hospital. She was 81.
She was a descendent of two families who settled in San Rafael in the 1850s. Her grandfather, Edward Eden, was Marin County coroner at the turn of the century. Her parents were Stephen Eden and Emelia Boyen Eden.
Mrs. Vaning attended local schools and later had vocal training. She was a 59-year member of the First Presbyterian Church of San Rafael.
Her husband, Walker B. Vaning, was San Rafael’s assistant fire chief. He died previously.
She is survived by a daughter, Eden Vaning-Rosen of Clearwater, Fla.; a son, Walker S. Vaning of San Rafael; and a sister, Gretchen Eden of San Rafael.
Private entombment was at Mount Tamalpais Cemetery in San Rafael.
The family prefers that memorial contributions be made to a favorite charity.
