Antone M. Silva
Former Dairy Rancher Succumbs

Antone M. Silva, who for many years operated the Tunnel ranch dairy farm on the site of what now is San Rafael Meadows, died yesterday at a local hospital. He was 79.

His wife, Mrs. Rose A. Silva, died Jan. 31 at the age of 80.

Silva was a native of St. George, Azores Islands. Upon coming to the United States, the Silvas operated a dairy ranch in the San Joaquin Valley, then took over the Tunnel ranch property, which took its name from a Northwestern Pacific Railroad tunnel through a nearby hill.

Mr. and Mrs. Silva, after retiring from dairy ranching 22 years ago, lived at 818 Grant avenue in Novato.

Survivors include two sons, Anthony H. Silva of Corte Madera and John M. Silva of San Rafael; two daughters, Mrs. William Antonio of Novato and Mrs. Pat McCarthy of Santa Rita Park, Merced County; 22 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

A Requiem Mass will be offered at 9 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Loretto Church, Novato. The Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Sunday at the Redwood Chapel in Novato. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, San Rafael.
